Before slithering his way out of town, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-NV) scheduled a September 8 procedural vote to AMEND THE CONSTITUTION. Specifically, this bill is to give Congress the power to decide what constitutes "political" speech and subject our protected First Amendment free speech to censoring at Washington's whim!

There is NO constitutional basis for such legislation… that's why in order to pass it, they have to "fix" the First Amendment!

Reid KNEW there would be outrage. That's why he waited until the last minute to file cloture on a motion to proceed with the insidious S.J. Res. 19, seeking to UNDO the 2010 Citizens United Supreme Court decision that protects YOUR political free speech expressed in political contributions from undue federal government restriction. This ruling helps ensure VITAL protection of fair and equitable application of the FIRST AMENDMENT in politics – which is why Democrats CANNOT STAND IT!

More alarming and insanely authoritarian still is that the S.J.R. 19 legislation not only gives Congress the power of discretionary censorship to overrule whatever is left of free speech, but it BARS the Judicial Branch from overturning any campaign finance laws authored by Congress in the future!

Of course, the job of the Judicial Branch is to ENSURE the laws created by the Legislative Branch – CONGRESS – are constitutional!

Not only is Obama, with his minion Harry Reid, decimating the Separation of Powers and Checks and Balances – the safeguards of our Republic – but his hacks on Capitol Hill are ENERGETICALLY helping him further erode our system of government and replace it with all-out, unstoppable tyranny!

S.J.R. 19 now reads:

Section 1. To advance democratic self-government and political equality, and to protect the integrity of government and the electoral process, Congress and the States may regulate and set reasonable limits on the raising and spending of money by candidates and others to influence elections.

Section 2. Congress and the States shall have power to implement and enforce this article by appropriate legislation, and may distinguish between natural persons and corporations or other artificial entities created by law, including by prohibiting such entities from spending money to influence elections.

Section 3. Nothing in this article shall be construed to grant Congress or the States the power to abridge the freedom of the press.

Section 3 was only rewritten after YOUR grassroots outrage helped to point out that by default of omission from the original proposed Section 3, States HAD the power to abridge the freedom of the press.

…"This partisan effort to weaken the First Amendment is the clearest proof yet of how out of touch the Democrat Majority has become from the needs and concerns of ordinary Americans and how ill-equipped they are to lead in these challenging times," Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) said after Reid scheduled the vote on S.J.R. 19. "Washington Democrats have forgotten that the First Amendment is meant to empower the people, not the government."….

Recently, Texas Republican Sen. Ted Cruz was called a liar by liberal activist and legal academic Erwin Chemerinsky, who sought to attack Cruz's character instead of the facts at hand over the progressives' S.J.R. 19 "reasonable" threat to our First Amendment free speech!

And as Cruz' response has since confirmed, Chemerinsky's was an attack that did not pass even basic fact-checking…

Sen. Cruz is TOO GRACIOUS, and TOO GENEROUS in his characterization of Chemerinsky's duplicity.

The Harry Reid Democrats are trying their best to capture the First Amendment of the United States under the cover of a catch-all "hide the bear-trap" term of "reasonableness" that sounds safe but conceals a fatal snare.

Texas Republican Sen. Ted Cruz has gone on the offensive against Harry Reid's anti-Bill of Rights initiative.

Reid's Senate Joint Resolution 19 AMENDS THE CONSTITUTION TO OBLITERATE PROTECTIONS OF OUR FIRST AMENDMENT RIGHT TO FREE SPEECH.

Cruz appeared on the The Kelly File, saying "42 Democrats have signed on to repeal" our God-given, constitutionally enshrined right to free speech.

And NOW that number is up to 48 Democrat cosponsors – 49 sponsors including Harry Reid! This monstrosity could WELL pass the Senate; we MUST mobilize against it NOW!

S.J.R. 19 "is contrary to the most fundamental protections our democracy's built on," Cruz said.

At the Senate Judiciary Committee hearing that same day, Cruz made clear just how desperately dangerous to ALL Americans, to both sides of the aisle Reid's anti-free speech amendment is, saying:

"This amendment if adopted would give Congress absolute authority to regulate the political speech of every single American – with no limitations whatsoever. This amendment is about power, and it is about politicians silencing the citizens… when did elected Democrats abandon the Bill of Rights?"

"Forty-two Democrats have signed their name to a constitutional amendment that would give Congress the power to muzzle Planned Parenthood and the National Right to Life. 42 Democrats have signed their name to giving Congress the right to muzzle the Sierra Club, to muzzle the National Rifle Association and the Brady Center on Handgun Violence. To muzzle Michael Moore and Dinesh D'Souza. To muzzle the Teamsters and the National Education Association. To muzzle the NAACP. To muzzle the Anti-Defamation League. To muzzle pastors and priests and rabbis who organize their parishioners to be involved in politics."

We NEED to be concerned about the authoritarian appeal this bill has for Obama progressives! They WANT to muzzle free speech, and tell EVERYONE what to do and what to think! Of course, they are LYING about what it does and how it would work. NOW the number of Democrat sponsors and cosponsors of S.J.R. 19 is all the way up to 49 including Harry Reid – this bill is DANGEROUS and has Democrat MOMENTUM!

It MUST be publicly debunked and repudiated…

Reid is LYING to sell this amendment as protection of political speech, saying that "free speech shouldn't cost the American voter a dime." In his statement before the committee, Reid twice mentioned the libertarian billionaire Koch brothers as he railed against "undue influence" and tried to paint his assault on free speech as a way to "undo the damage done by the Supreme Court's recent campaign finance decisions"…

IT IS THE SUPREME COURT'S JOB TO RULE ON INDIVIDUAL CASES – which it did in Citizens United. When the SCOTUS rules, larger legal implications are drawn by the legal guild of what is and is not permissible under our Constitution.

With our system of separation of powers, the Legislative AND the Executive Branches get to slug out conflicting opinions on these matters, but under the "doctrine of judicial review," the Supreme Court has emerged over history as generally the final arbiter of interpreting and deciding matters and limits of "constitutionality."

One thing is certain – We the American People do not DESERVE any longer to call ourselves a People of the Constitution and People of Laws if we permit the likes of Harry Reid to chisel away at, diminish and CHEAPEN the BILL OF RIGHTS!

Clearly, if Reid were in fact concerned NOT about raw political power but about the sanctity of our free and fair electoral system, he would be championing VOTER IDs – something even the citizenry of many Third World nations are capably handling, but American citizens are portrayed by the Democrats as being incapable of…

Harry Reid MUST NOT get away with this flagrantly anti-American, predatory violation upon YOUR constitutionally protected, God-given rights!

If adopted, S.J.R. 19 would be the first time in our nation's 237 years of history that the Constitution of this country sought amendment to RESCIND A FUNDAMENTAL RIGHT – a natural, God-given, inherent right that is NOT at the discretion of dirty Harry Reid, Barack Obama, Chuck Schumer or anyone else because by definition it is UNALIENABLE!

Introduced by Sen. Tom Udall (D-CO), this proposed Twenty-Eighth Amendment specifically provides that "Congress shall have power to regulate the raising and spending of money and in-kind equivalents with respect [to] the Federal elections… [and] State elections."

It includes a provision that "Nothing in this article shall be construed to grant Congress the power to abridge the freedom of the press."

Just YOUR freedom of speech… yeah right!

It concludes: "Congress and the States shall have power to implement and enforce this article by appropriate legislation."

For example, that provision against regulation of the press – yet another blow to the First Amendment of our Bill of Rights – is laughable on its face.

Under the Obama putsch, the Federal Election Commission is already trying to nail conservative media powerhouses like Sean Hannity and Drudge Report for LINKS to articles about candidates. Their false argument is that these links qualify as endorsements or advertising… something that Big Brother needs to regulate and stifle…

"In-kind" equivalents COULD MEAN ANYTHING paid or given that is not cold hard cash such as these links or airtime for candidates – and under this Udall SJR 19 it would be up to the discretion of CONGRESS to decide what that constitutes, and CHANGE it if public opinion is trending in ways they don't like, like say a citizen revolt such as the Tea Party…

This totalitarian assault on our First Amendment rights is being pitched as Harry Reid cracking down on the "un-American" conservative Koch brothers for what he falsely claims is "dark money" from the wealthy spent in a "bid for a hostile takeover of American democracy"…

The Wall Street Journal writes:

"The larger story here is how far the American left is willing to go to cripple their political opponents. They're even willing to write a giant loophole into America's founding charter so Congress can limit political speech. The Tea Party's concerns about eroding liberty turn out to be more accurate than even its most devoted partisans imagined."

BOTH sides of the aisle should be HORRIFIED – KICKING AND SCREAMING to KILL this bill. Instead, Republican elites are SILENT and the so-called Establishment AS USUAL ARE LAYING LOW, thinking it won't happen; if they ignore it, it will just go away. Make no mistake, Harry Reid, Chuck Schumer and now 40 more signers-on sense the appalling weakness of GOP "leadership" and are ready to MAKE IT HAPPEN!

We already have IRS thugs unjustly, illegally targeting Tea Partiers and conservatives on the basis of POLITICS and colluding with the FEC to shut political speech down anyway they can – Congress MUST NOT be given one iota of power to take the targeting of political opposition to a whole new level, and especially NOT through any "legal" instrument that destroys our First Amendment rights!

For good reason, in all of American history, only one amendment has modified a previous amendment – the Twenty-First Amendment ratified in 1933 repealed the Eighteenth Amendment prohibiting alcohol.

Never has the Bill of Rights been touched.

Memorably, as recently as 2011 Reid voted against S.J.R. 10, a proposed constitutional amendment to REQUIRE THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT TO BALANCE THE FEDERAL BUDGET. In 2004 Reid voted against S.J.R. 40, a constitutional amendment designed to protect marriage as the union of one man and one woman.

But dismantling free speech? He's on it! So ANYTHING you say or do that Reid or his gang of Democrat majority punks decide might benefit a candidate running for office is SPEECH UP FOR REGULATION to the point of ANNIHILATION.

And let's not forget, if S.J.R. 19 is not defeated, it would be the first instance in which a fundamental right SECURED IN THE BILL OF RIGHTS OF THE CONSTITUTION WAS EVER EXPLICITLY SCALED BACK.

If they get away with this, they are coming after the next NINE enumerated protections we have as Americans in the Bill of Rights – and who knows when, if ever, they will stop.

After all, Sen. Chuck Schumer (D-NY) – who compared conservative political free speech to PORNOGRAPHY ("I respect my colleagues' fidelity to the First Amendment, but no amendment is absolute. Some support limitations on pornography. That's a limitation on the First Amendment") has already promised that the full Senate WILL VOTE on this measure – AND NOW HE AND HARRY REID ARE DELIVERING WITH A VOTE THE FIRST DAY BACK FROM AUGUST RECESS! The Democrats want this impediment on conservatives in place ahead of the 2016 elections.

They want us silenced right when we're best poised to take this country back.
