URGENT ACTION ALERT: The Department of Veterans Affairs on Monday released an internal audit of its 731 medical facilities revealing that more than 57,000 NEW patients have waited at least 90 days for first appointments.

64,000 veterans were never seen at all. We do NOT know yet how many vets have died waiting, and waiting for care. This is criminally negligent homicide – and criminal charges MUST be filed.

About 13 percent of VA schedulers responded that they were told to LIE about appointment-request dates to fit the "two-week" standard.

Another 8 percent of scheduling staff said they used unofficial lists to track patients who waited at least 90 days for appointments.

At 24 sites, scheduling staff said they felt "threatened or coerced" to enter incorrect information, according to the report.

It also said the VA's goal of providing our vets with an initial appointment within 14 days of request was unattainable because of growing demand… it also blames its scheduling software FROM circa 1985.

According to a senior VA official, the department will channel about $300 million over the next two to three months to help accelerate appointment times by expanding hours AND contracting with non-VA facilities. Senate Veterans Affairs Committee Chairman Bernie Sanders (I-VT) and Sen. John McCain (R-AZ) have also proposed a bill to allow veterans to seek care at non-VA medical facilities as well as provide about $500 million to hire more doctors, nurses and authorization for the VA to open 26 medical facilities in 18 states.

This is a good start, HOWEVER – Washington cannot simply throw money at these problems and get away with NO ACCOUNTABILITY – a disturbing, growing trend in the Obama era!

The director of the "killer" AZ medical center alone was awarded an $8,500 bonus with your taxpayer dollars… Sharon Helman, the top executive for the Phoenix VA Health Care System has been directed to repay the $9,345 in bonus money she received last month, as the scandal over delayed care and deaths at the Carl T. Hayden Medical Center escalate.

In a statement released Wednesday, the Department of Veterans Affairs announced that Director Eric Shinseki was rescinding the bonus after determining that it had been issued "due to an administrative error."

That news came just hours after Barack Obama delivered a "policy" speech on the Veterans Affairs firestorm, and hours before the White House deputy chief of staff arrived in Phoenix for briefings on the scandal.

According to a Washington Times report:

"The Obama administration received clear notice more than five years ago that VA medical facilities were reporting inaccurate waiting times and experiencing scheduling failures that threatened to deny veterans timely health care – problems that have turned into a growing scandal.

Veterans Affairs officials warned the Obama-Biden transition team in the weeks after the 2008 presidential election that the department shouldn't trust the wait times that its facilities were reporting."

Now we know these "secret" waiting lists were no more than callous bureaucrats cooking the books so the months-long waiting lists were officially two weeks…

Obama KNEW and chose to do NOTHING.

Barack Obama so far has REFUSED to acknowledge any "connection" between our veterans' wait times for everything from appointments to surgery and DEATHS. But that's NOT what reports from the VA say!

From USA Today:

"Delays in endoscopy screenings for potential gastrointestinal cancer in 76 veterans treated at Department of Veterans Affairs hospitals are linked to 23 deaths … according to the VA. The delays occurred at 27 VA hospitals with deaths at 13 of the facilities. The worst record was at the William Jennings Bryan Dorn veterans hospital in Columbia, S.C., where there were 20 cases of delays and six deaths, according to a VA report. Other deaths occurred at VA hospitals in Hampton, Va.; Augusta, Ga.; Charleston, S.C.; Miami; West Palm Beach, Fla.; Huntington, W.Va.; Cleveland; Prescott, Ariz.; Tucson; Grand Junction, Colo.; and Iowa City, Iowa…"

Right there are 23 deaths documented in BLACK AND WHITE just from delays in endoscopy screenings…

This doesn't include the vets who committed SUICIDE rather than suffer on the wait-lists for care they weren't sure would ever happen.

Or the military veteran is Wisconsin with a broken jaw who still had not had his jaw fixed after a month and a half.

This doesn't include the hundreds of veterans who died because of malpractice at VA medical centers and it doesn't even touch on OTHER scandals such as rampant drug dealing, theft, and "bureaucratic neglect" that we're learning of at the Miami VA medical center from police detective Thomas Fiore in Florida. He even says he was ORDERED BY THE HOSPITAL'S CHIEF-OF-STAFF TO STOP HIS INVESTIGATION OF "MISSING" CONTROLLED SUBSTANCES.

Where is the accountability? Where is the care that we as a nation PROMISED and that our veterans EARNED?

Where is the respect?

The Defense Department's inspector general says 26 VA facilities are under investigation, including the Phoenix VA hospital, where a former clinic director says as many as 40 veterans may have died while awaiting treatment.

Officials also are investigating claims that VA employees have falsified appointment records to cover up delays in care. An initial review of 17 people who died while wait-listed for appointments in Phoenix found that none of their deaths appeared to have been caused by delays in treatment.

The allegations have raised fresh concerns about the administration's management of a department that has been struggling to keep up with the influx of veterans returning home from the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, and Vietnam veterans needing more care as they age.

The directive announced Saturday should make it easier for veterans to get medical care at non-VA facilities, according to an agency spokeswoman – but many in Congress are saying it does not go nearly far enough, and they are right. We need to raise our voices in outcry until every veteran has the freedom to get first class medical care anywhere in the country, as needed.

The VA spent about $4.8 billion last year on medical care at non-VA hospitals and clinics, spokeswoman Victoria Dillon said. That amounts to about 10 percent of health care costs for the Veterans Health Administration, the agency's health care arm.

It was not clear how much the new initiative would cost, Dillon said.

Rep. Jeff Miller, R-Fla, chairman of the House Veterans' Affairs Committee, welcomed Shinseki's announcement, but questioned why it took so long. Reports about the veterans at the Phoenix hospital surfaced more than a month ago.

Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz., has called for the VA to allow more veterans to receive medical care at private hospitals. House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., said this past week that she was open to the idea of medical care at private hospitals.

"We can't have another backlog of people waiting for permission to go to a federally qualified clinic in a region," Pelosi told reporters at her weekly press conference on Thursday. "We have to think in a big way because this is a very big challenge."

"As we've been reminded in recent days, we must do more to keep faith with our veterans and their families, and ensure they get the care and benefits and opportunities that they've earned and that they deserve," Obama LIMPLY intoned on Memorial Day in a nod to the VA scandal.

But the Obama administration has stubbornly refused to acknowledge the deep seriousness or scope of the crisis that besets the VA, or its devastating effect on our military and their loved ones – because they KNOW what doing so portends for public acceptance of its clone, government run, national health care for us all under the disastrous ObamaCare!

Resignation is too good for Veterans Affairs Secretary Eric Shinseki, who let this happen on his watch, AS OBAMA'S SURROGATE – THAT IS HOW SECRETARIES SERVE THE OVAL OFFICE. And we already know what Obama knew and when he knew it – HE WAS MORE CONCERNED WITH ADVANCING OBAMACARE THAN WITH CARE FOR OUR VETS! We KNOW that our veterans cannot count on this administration for honor, accountability or the righting of this wrong.

We must compel Congress to confront Obama and obey their oaths of office!

We must demand CRIMINAL INVESTIGATIONS, INDICTMENTS, and where warranted initiate inquires of IMPEACHMENT – and then we must investigate the whole way to the Oval Office and if the evidence supports it, call for IMPEACHMENT there…
